4.I got stuck when i read this question, and i also don't know why.Frankly, the only thing i regret is my math.Although my overall math pass, but my paper fail. The truth is,i really fail.I have to learn this lesson, stop fooling around and focus on your subjects, especially math.If i really want to pass my math paper,i need to be work hard, really hard.It influence me alot.Back to primary school,my math always pass and done well, but i fail my math paper at sec 1.

I believe environment changes and the way of study math is different from primary school,so i must familiar the way of teaching teacher teaches us.Another thing is,all because of my laziness and lack of enthusiastic in math.At first when i got my math paper result,i broke the news to my parents and to my surprise, they didn't scold me.They tell me to study and work well as they believe i have the potential to do well.Next semester,i will spend time reading books and doing math problems.

3.Doing the projects in every subject is interesting and fun.But teachers should not give us all the different subjects projects in the same time.I think teachers must arrange the time and deadline properly as there will be trouble for us to do as deadline is so near.Project-type assessments i believe is more interesting and fun.It letting us to be more understanding on the topics and subject we have learn in the past and now.It teaches us lots of things we didn't knows as project-type needed us to search online and books on the particular subjects/topics to answer the project questions.

It also strengthen our bonding between our group mates and communications.Excursions will be nice for us.We visited Sungei Buloh Wetland to enrich our answering in project works.I have a really good time visiting there as we saw many animals and plants that we can't find in books.So,project-type assessments benefited us alot.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken ?Where and how have you met that goal ? Where and how have you fallen short ? And how will you proceed toward that goal in the second semester ?

Basically I did not do well in End of Year Examination. The goal I set for myself in September is to bush up my Mathematic.
The steps that I have taken are :
> Ask my cousin when I have any doubts.
> Write down study note for Revision
> Cut down time for relaxation
> Not spend so much time watching television programme
> Use the computer for good use and not playing
> Study together with friends

Sadly, I did not acheive the goal that I yearn for. The most probably reason is cause I didn't make real good use of the time that I have to do sufficient revision. For the second semester, I will organize a detailed time table and start working hard on it.I will make sure that I pay full attention in class and clear all my doubts especially in mathematic and science, the two subjects which I'm weak in.[156 words excluding title]

1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned / discovered about yourself this semester ?

I used to play hockey in my primary school. But I didn't get a lot of chances to perform very well in hockey. I only became a reserve in the hockey team. I always think that I am just a reserve and I could do nothing much to make the school proud. But sooner or later, I came to this school. Hockey is the only CCA that I wanted to enter. And I wanted to do my utmost, I picked up a lot of skill that the coach taught. I also get many chances to play for a club, slowly I gained confidence in myself. Seniors also give many encouragement that also help me build up more and more confidence in myself. To me, they are paragons. In order to be like them, I need to strive hard! In future, I hope to make use of my talent and bring bright glory to the school. [ 154 word excluding title]

5) Based on your answers to the questions above, how do you wish to grow/ change as a student/ person second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?

I wish to have more interest in studying as studying makes our future path. I also
want to change to be a student that pays attention in class and hands in homework promptly. I will pay full attention is class and not be easily distracted. I will also copy notes for self revision, clear all my doubts with my subject teachers, my friends or anyone that understands. Most importantly, I must do my daily homework before I switched on the computer or even the television. Besides that, I will revise whenever I have the time. Instead of going out, I will spend more time at home revising the topics I don’t understand. I can even study in groups at the nearest library with my friends. That will probably help not only me but also my friends to understand more clearly if we clear all our doubts. I will try and be a better student next year.

4) Think back to a time over the past semester when you faced a challenge or made a big mistake. ( a bad grade on something, letting your benchmarks pile up until the last minute, etc.) What sorts of lesson did you learn about yourself from that challenge and/or mistake? How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? In what ways does this experience help you to plan for next semester?

During the last semester, I kept burning midnight oil and did not studied well, so I did not do well for my science and was graded C. I was very sad that time. I know that my science was not good but I did not study hard enough. This incident made me revise earlier for all my other subjects and not burning midnight oil anymore. My relatives advice me to revise earlier and not burning midnight oil as it does not help. It also makes me no energy to absorb what I read, and it will cause me to have not enough concentration. Now that I know my science is not as strong as my other subjects, I will pick out more time to revise my science oftenly. I will not neglect other subjects. I will plan a time table for studying and some free time. I will go according to the time table and not repeating the same thing again.

3) What are your thoughts about having projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support your answer.

Doing projects in every subject is fun as we get to learn different things. A dateline for project is a must but they should give us time as we have many projects up on. Projects requiring experiments are fun and interesting but it gets difficult when the experiment does not work. It is much better than the traditional way of showing us what we know as we get the real ‘live’ prove. By doing that, we understand it more clearly. Doing experiments also need teamwork. Teamwork is very important in projects as everybody plays a part. Going on a fieldtrip is like experiments as it makes the project easier and we get the ‘live’ experience. Fieldtrip not only make us enjoy ourselves, it also get us to know more about the things around us. The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve trip is a good example. We not only enjoyed ourselves there, we get to know about the nature and see many creatures that we never see before. After going to the trip, it makes our project easier. If we did not go to the trip, by just researching through the Internet, I don’t think we will learn and enjoy ourselves that much.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed toward the goal in the second semester?

From the start of second semester, I find difficulties handling history. So I aimed for only a B grade. I did all ways I could think of trying to get B. I studied in groups, asked my cousin if I don’t understand, did notes for easy revision, revise when I have time and pay more attention to class. Although I tried all this, I still did not obtain a B grade for the end of year examination. I will try my best to obtain a B grade of next year but clearing all my doubts. I think that asking questions when I don’t understand is very important. As when I am revising, I need not waste time calling people asking questions. By saving time, I can revise more. I should also start revising earlier and not burn midnight oil like what I did this semester. Burning midnight oil makes us no energy to study and even take the paper.

1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about yourself this semester?

From my past six years of primary life, I dread writing compositions. I felt that they were long stories that make me crack my head and think of things to add into the story whenever I did not meet the word count. But ever since this semester, My views on writing totally change. I discovered that I have some talents in writing creative compositions. I not only to pick up good phrases from storybooks or magazines I read from, I also picked creative sentences. I will try to use all I can think of oftenly. Besides improving my English and vocabulary, it also makes my composition more interesting. This way of writing helps me alot. Such as having an interesting plot, adding more effects to it, meeting the word count or rather more than what I had expected. Most importantly, it makes my readers no longer bored. Now, to me writing compositions is no longer a dreading!

Based on your answers to the question above, how do you wish to grow/change as a student/person second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?
I would like to change to a better student regarding to my academic results and be more willing to learn. I know that studies are very important because our future depends on how you perform in school. I will take my work more seriously in the next semester because that is a major problem that’s affecting my results. I will try to be more cautious in my work by paying more attention in class and do my revision earlier. I will cut down on my leisure time like playing computer and watching television programmes. I hope not to disappoint my parents in the next semester anymore and do them proud. One of the more effective ways for me to succeed in my studies is personal notes as I think it is a great way of remembering the many formulas we have and a study group with friends will help us to clear up more doubts.

How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? In what ways does this experience help you plan for the next semester?
One of the big mistakes I made during the past semester is last minute studying and careless mistakes. I do not know why but I do not feel the keen of anxiety to study until the last few days before exam starts. Thus, I did last minute revision for my exams. Last minute revision had dire consequences which ended me up in disappointing grades. My parents were disappointed after seeing the results but still, encouraged me to strive harder. Not only that, but they also showed concern in my studies by asking me if I can cope with the work when they saw me burning the midnight oil. So I learnt that I must work harder not just for my sake, but my parents too. I planed to study earlier and so that I would not sleep late, causing me to sleep right after I finished my paper and did not check my work properly (thus, leading to careless mistakes) and try to work out ways that would help me to be more prepared in exams.

3) What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challen

I think it is ok to do projects on every subject if the amounts are reasonable. It would be better that teachers would hold a meeting with different subject teachers and discuss when and how much project they should give us as many times, different subject projects dateline clash. Thus, leading to we students having problems to meet the dateline. I think that projects could be held during our break after every end of term as it would mean that we could have more time to finish the projects. Doing project-type assessments can let us understand the topic better because we look up for more information regarding the topic. Plus, it helps us in communication and teamwork. An example is of course, excursions! I think that excursions make us understand half of the project already (if our project is about a place) as we had the experience on the day we went on the trip.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you f

One of the goals I’ve set for myself is to strive harder for my Maths as I’m only above average and this is seriously affecting my overall performance.
The steps I’ve taken are:

· Cutting down on the time I spend on watching television programmes
· Type/write down personal notes
· Ask friends if I have any doubts
· Practice more on assessments
· Do a study group with friends

I did not meet that goal but I will still strive next year. I think I did not reach my goal because I did not start doing my revision early. So, in the next semester, I will draw up a timetable and start following it weeks before the exam and not doing it only at the week of exams. Also, paying attention at class is very important because if you paid attention in class, you would have lesser doubts and it would be easier for you to revise.

1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about yourself this semester?

To me, cooking is a torturous activity as it would cause you to be sweaty and after cooking you would have to clean up the whole place if it is covered with oil. Until this year where we had a new subject, Home economics. When I first heard about this, it’s really terrible because it means that we would have to cook and how could I continue my lessons after all getting so sweaty? But after attending the first lesson, I beg to differ. Cooking is very interesting after all! You could get cook with a friend and after that, taste the results of your cooking and get the sense of satisfaction when both you and your partner loves the food. Thus, I had a new passion for cooking because you will not only feel satisfied with the results but also feel more independent as you do not have to rely on your parents to cook for you every time.

I wish to change to a better student that obey teachers and respects them. I also want to pay attention in class and revise occasionally. After thinking about my future, I have a better view of where to go and how to change myself to a better student. I will look at my mistakes in my work and try to understand what the mistakes are. I can ask my friends whenever I need help as they would help me. We can help each other to revise our work. I would like to face challenges that teacher give. I would like to try mind mapping important points for example science as mind map will make my revision easier. I will finish my homework and assessments within the day before I do anything else. From a lazy student, I wish to grow to a better student that is hardworking and willing to learn.

Now thinking back, I realized I failed my mathematics badly during the Mid Year Exam. I was very sad and afraid that my parents would scold me. When I got home and broke the news to them, they did not scold me but encouraged me to score better next time. They also tell me thousands of things about the future. I could see that they wanted me to score well and do them proud. From this lesson, I know what caused me to score so badly during the examination. It was due to my laziness and lack of preparation and sleep. Before the night during the exam, I always like to watch television programmes till late hour. After I finish the paper during exam, I check through once and started to sleep. That is why I had many careless mistakes that caused my marks. I will strive to get better results.

3) What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challen

I don’t like to do projects although friends can get together and interact with each other. Sometimes different subject teachers will give different projects at almost the same time. It is hard to complete many projects on the same time and dead-line as we have our own personal time. If we use up all our time on projects, we have no time to do extra revision. Not everyone can meet up at the same time and discuss about the projects. So this makes us very difficult to complete the project by the dead-line, in the correct way and includes everyone’s opinion. Doing projects can make us understand some things better and we can share our different point of view and knowledge with the class. An example is the science project after going to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. We need to share what we see, learn, do and try there. I love science and I love excursions despite there are many mosquitoes there. I enjoy doing the project because I had interest in it.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you f

My goal is to brush up on my mathematics as my score is just near average. I wish to go to polytechnic and because of this, I need to score well for my mathematics.
The steps I have taken were:
- Watch less television programme.
- Cut down the time on playing computer games.
- Ask my sister when I have any queries.
- Do more mathematics assessments and read the guide books.
- Meet up with friends to study in a group.

I did not meet that goal that I set for myself but I will try my best next year. I have no interest in mathematics and I guess this is why I feel very reluctant whenever I pick up the mathematics books. I will strive harder for every thing I do and try to get my score back to the peak of the mountain, and I will try to do the steps that I listed above.

1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about yourself this semester?

In the past, I dislike cooking as I think it is very troublesome and it’s very stuffy and oily to stay in the kitchen for a long time. The first time I entered the F&N kitchen, I do not know how to cook. But after learning some simple dishes, I find that actually we get to rest in the kitchen and it is not very hot and stuffy inside. We work with our partners so we can try to do different things. Also, it is not a tough thing to cook. Although some times, the hot oil will scald our hands, but after eating the food that we cook, we have a sense of satisfaction. When I let my friends try the food after school, they said that it is quite tasty. As this is why I developed a hidden passion for cooking and I know that I actually have a talent in cooking.

After school, when I reach home, I break the news to my mother but she didn’t scold me. In fact, she encouraged me to work hard and score better result next time but I could see that she was quite disappointed with me.
From this lesson, I know what had causes me to score such a bad result. It was due to my laziness and that I always like to prepared my exam in the eleventh hour. It also had also influence me that I will need to work hard in order to score better result next semester and to clarify my work with the teachers whenever I had any doubts on it. Not only that, I had learnt to prepared my exam early and not in the last minute.

In the second semester, I will work hard and try not to make any careless mistakes in the future. I would try to:

-play less computer games
-pay more attention in class
-do more assessment
-set a target
-made less mistakes
-read the instructions carefully

To aim my target, I would have to do all this things and do my work with determination, or I would not able to succeed. I would make a time table and try to make more time for my work and less outing so that I would able to sort out my time well and would not mess it up or waste any time. Attention in class is also very important in class as we may miss out something that is very important in our exams. A target is also very important as well as we do not have a direction to go and would not strive for it so I would made a change in myself and strive for better grades to reach my target.

I think that a bad mistake that lead me to bad grades on my exams is carelessness. Careless mistakes are something I would always make during my exams and all the marks add up and would pull down my grades. Now, I would check my work thoroughly enough, again and again and read the instructions carefully. This not only help in my grades, but the way I do things too, and to check what it ask for and whether it is correct to do so, but not impulsively. This had made me understand the importance of marks during exams. In the next semester, I plan to do some assessments books during the holidays and revise my work and prevent myself from getting the mistakes again. Mistakes bound to happen during exams but as long we are careful, I am sure that we can prevent it from happening.

3)In primary school,we have projects but not so much.In secondary school,we have projects in almost all the subjects.Projects helps us to understand a topic more easily.Pupil are lazy to do project. Project also helps to reflect a topic.Like example if you learn a topic but after a week, you forget about it. Project help you to remember it.Projects also helps you to show how much you understand about a topic. At First I hate projects a lot as it require a lot of work and you need to spend a lot of time to it but later then I knew it is to my own good.To my personal opnial, project is good. Project is usually meaningful to me but some people think that project does not do any benefit to them.Just doing extra work does not kill you.Instead of just showing the answer, project helps you to understand a topic more better so my advice to all people who do not like project is start liking it as you need it in work.

4)Usually during holidays,my seconary1 teachers will give a lot of holiday homework to do during holiday.Last time,I ususlly hate to do my homework.Everytime when holiday starts,I will not do my homework and play with my sisters. When the holiday was coming to the end,I will still play with my sisiters. 1) 1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/ discovered about yourself this semester?

In the past, I dislike cooking as I felt that it is quite troublesome and I also didn’t know how to cook, not even instant noodles. I always had to rely on my mother to cook for me. On some occasion, when my mother was not at home and I was feeling hungry, I will munch on some biscuit, as I didn’t know how to cook.
But after since I attended the F&N classes in school, I learnt how to cook a few simple dishes and I enjoy the whole process of cooking as the lesson is going on. During the practical exam, you have to come up with two dishes in less than two hours without the help of your partner. Not only that, you also have to decorate your dishes and wash all the utensil within this two hours but I did it. When my friends and my mother taste it, they all said that it is quite delicious and that is when I realise that I had a talent in cooking.
It also had enlightened me that we can’t always rely on our parents to do things for us; we have to learn to be independent.

4)Think back to a time over the past semester when you faced a challange or made a big mistake.(a bad grade on something, letting your benchmarks pile up until the last minute, etc.)What sorts of lessons did you learn about yourself from that challange and/or mistake? How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? In what ways does this experience help you to plan for next semester?

I had a bad grade for mathematics due to many reasons. One of the reason is that,I tend to do piles of maths homework in the last minute and causing confusion and misunderstanding of various topics.Due to this big mistake, not only had I recieved a bad grade but also a lesson that I needed to learn. When there is a homework, don't wait for the last minute then do but get rid of it and enjoy the excess time left when done. The mistake of hurrying causes the work to be filled with red pen ink and crosses.Mathematics is a subject that neede patience and understanding. The lesson that I had learnt influenced us to be more patient in homework or any other things that occur in our life.I had plan to use my time and be more patient to do work in the next semester.Never to do homework at the very last minute and having to be punished when work is not completed.

3)What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what way are the project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support your answer.

When it comes to projects, the only thing that I can say is "Oh my god!"To make the project better and creative,we need teamwork.Even though a person can do a project himself,it can never be perfect as a good project needed teamwork.Project-type assessments didn't have answers and it all depend on the mind and our creativity. We have difficulties understanding the process. It can be interesting as we can use all sorts of creative ideas we have in our heads and make it more fun.The challenging part is that time limit is so tight it rushes the process and make us nervous. It can be meaningful because when you receive good marks from the project, all of us who contributed in the project can savour the fruit of labour. We all will know that we have put in effort and did our part.

2) Describe one goal you have set for youself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed towards that goal in the second semester?

One of my goals is to buck up my mathematics as it was lowest and it is important to our future marks for various good schools. The steps I have taken were:

1)Revise through maths problemsand understand the concepts.
2)Ask for help from my brother for further understanding.
3)Cut down playtime and revise subjects that I was confused with.
4)Lock myself up to prevent any interruptions.
5)Give up on computer games and only touch computer if there is a need.

Unfortunately,I have not met the goal but I will try my very best for the next semester.I have fallen short in primary six and maybe...I didn't pay attention to teachers so that was how I dropped. In order to achieve better marks,I will pay more attentions to teachers and make effort in homework or any projects.I will try to do the steps that I listed above.

1)What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about yourself this semester?

I can't say if it is a talent but it is a whole new me.I remembered the six years in my primary school life,I was not confident in participating when there were class discussions. Therefore,I had been keeping quiet all the time and only when the teacher called upon me or group discussions. However, things have changed this year.I have become much confident in participating but it was not often...All thanks to Mrs Quah and the teachers and of course, friends who made me be cheerful and rather talkative. This confidence can help me in my studies or finding friends. It sure is one stone kills two birds.I discovered the only best way and easy way is asking any questions that you are not sure with.By asking or speaking,we can improve our english and at the same time, oral.Although this semester had ended,I will change myself to be more confident.

I would like to change as a student for the better. And also for my future,i will have to overcome my dislikes in a few subjects. And maybe, because of this i did not do very well.I prefer to think about what i am doing and actually convince myself that what i am doing is either right or to take advantage before doing it.I must make my own choice for the better.

It certainly takes a mature youth to discern correctly what is right and wrong and to respond wisely. To me, our generation should be diligent and positive in learning new things while the latter would be the last to complete assignments and yet the first to complain when new knowlegde is to be taught.I will continue to develop my strenghts and keeep trying to overcome my weaknesses. So that in real life , i will have no regrets.

i find it quite stressful as there is a few subject i am not particularlly not good at even though i do not wish to do it i could not just do nothing. As i know that the teacher who gave the assigment only meant the good things,of course it was to make us have more under standing from the projects through the thinking.

i sometimes could not cooperate with my team mates as our ideas did not match, for example he exmaple he wanted south but i wanted north but i soon relise that teamwork is important i knew that to have better team work ,one must agree as a team in order to do well.

i felt that doing a project is better then show ur understand jus by doing a question on the worksheet. the project lets you strech capability of showing the amount of you know

Question THREE:

My thoughts on having to do projects in every subjects is a good idea.As it will help us understand more on topic given. However, if every subject teacher is to give a project to their student,it may somehow create a little problem. If given ,the number of subjects per day and projects that were given, by all subjects teachers, together with the date of completion. There will be time constraints, even when extended.

Project type assessments involves more than one person.Besides, doing and finding information for the presentation ,basically we get to bond with our teammates .It is as though killing to birds with one stone. To me,doing projects is better than, sitting down in class, waiting to be asked by the teacher about what he or she knows about that particular topic. And we will get to work out our teammates weaknesses, rather than doing everything alone.

The goal that i had in mind in September, was to work even harder. So that i could achieve good result with better grades,by passing all my subjects. And to get all this ,first of all i need to understand what was taught.By paying more attentively in class, taking down notes, being involved in activities and more.

Making sure that i wrote down the right things, after lessons i went looking for the subject teacher to clarify my doubts, regarding what was taught that day.But to my dismay ,i have fallen short .Maybe i am not focused or unsure of how to set my target right or even the lack of understanding.

After realising all those,i decided to make adjustments regarding my goal .It has also made me identify my strengths and weakness.Evenso, persuasive words such as 'Try harder' and 'don't give up' will always be by me.

I may not be a very good public speaker, but it has been an experience for me .As when i am still in primary school, it has been like a weekly routine for me,to speak in front of the class to present school or class projects .but i believe i can do better public speaker than what i am today. And to do that ,i need more practise and work hard on my memory work,as i sometimes do need help from my scripts.

At first, the problems that I thought that is regarding the different opinions that lead to arguments but worries are unfolded as every of our group members work together with harmony and work seriously together . Project-type assessment is more interesting as it can use many creative ideas. For example “island of the blue dolphin” we put up a diskette that contains our sound recording and we think that it is a very good idea. Every one of us carries out a different role and draw out attractive drawings to make our work the best one. I think that project-work assessment is better as it makes us more interested in the subject that we dislike. In the other hand, it could make our group could communicate better. We could also accumulate more experience and make our future project better. I hope I could have more of those project-type assessments in the future.

I had set a target for myself in my poor subject, English. I had read more English books I had brought during silent-reading period and to pay more attention during English lesson and to hand in my work in time. I think that I should control well in my Chinese as well in English. Sometimes, I would use my speaking in Chinese to form a sentence in English in the wrong way. My weakness in English is verb which I should pay more attention. And I think I should pay more attention to my verb and weakness that I know and work towards it and not in others I would still work hard to my goal and try to achieve for better results. In the second semester, I would work toward my goal by reading newspaper and learning more of their sentence making and so to achieve better results. One thing that I had improved is Chinese as I had read newspaper and more creative sentence to make my composition more interesting.

In this semester, I think that group work had enabled us to communicate well and better understanding in each other. What I had discovered is also that I could speak more in freedom with my group members and that makes our project better. I think that that this is a very challenging year for me as it needs a lot of hard work to strive for better grades. Saying about talent, the only thing that I like is music and I think that I can develop my interest in this. Although it can’t help me in my work, but it helps to relieve stress during my examinations. I think that 1d is really a great class for learning and developing interest in subject that once that I think that I dislike. I had learned to exposed to public and present our group work well and to work together as a group in harmony. Though our opinions are different, we learned to make use of every opinion in great use and rest, as reference. We would take turns to act as different roles and so, to do every role well. I had learned a lot.

5. Based on your answer to the question above, how do you wish to grow/change as a student/person second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?

- I wish to become a person that can honor my parents and to respect peoples choice, as now i'm quite pissed off by my parents nagging and i know i would one day overcome that and to respect and honor them the right way. I tired to tell them my reasons for doing what so ever, but i think we just need a little more time. And i would like to change my character of not being so selfish and only thinking about my ownself. As for to be a good student and get good grades for my parents to see and to let them know that i can do the right things at the right time.I would really really want my parents to know more about me and to put themselves in my shoe. I would have to be patient with them and explain to them whats going on. I really hope that it will happen and i will become a understanding person. And to understand my friends more then now.

4. Think back to a time over the past semester when you faced a challenge or a big mistake. ( a bad grade on something, letting your benchmarks pile up until the last minute, etc.) What sorts of lessons did you learn about yourself from that challenge and/or mistake? How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? In what ways does this experience help you to plan for next semester?

- I faced a challenge and that is to over come my fear of speaking in public. I've decided that speaking in public is a very important thing, like when being the leader you got to speak up. I've learnt that not being able to speak up is a scary thing, thats what i think. I have experience that type of feeling before example like when its your turn to talk and everyone is staring at you. After that first encounter, i have known that the feeling is not so bad. So now im trying to speak up whenever i can. And its been going well.I have been brave enough to tell my parents that what i do there is always a reason to it and i can explain to them why i did that and it made my life better since i started to speak up. This experience can help me with my projects that i can present.

5) Based on your answers to the questions above, how do you wish to grow/change as a student/person for second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?

Bases on my questions above, I have thought about it and realize that there is a lot for me to change and improve on. From a lazy and childish person, I wish to change into a mature and hardworking person.
In order to score excellence result in my exam, I will give the teacher my full attention when the lesson is going on and not sitting on my seat daydreaming. I will clarify my work with the teachers if I had any doubts on it and whenever the teacher gives up homework, I will take it seriously and put all my efforts in. In the past I use to prepare my exam in the eleventh hour but from now on, whenever I came back school, I will spend my time to summaries what the teachers had teaches us. As I knew I was very weak in my science, I will buy some assement books to do but I know that just doing assement books is not enough, the most important is that I have to understand the topic well.
I did not do well in my studies this year and I did not get into my ideal class. I was quite disappointed but I believe that if I work hard, I will definitely achieve and I will do my best.

2.I have a goal after mid-year-exams and September,to pass my math exam.I tried almost everything, from doing all math homeworks to listening attentively in class, but i still failed.I also tried burning midnight oil i cannot focus on things i want to study. The negative impact is next day i can't focus on lessons,I know i can't depend on burning midnight oil.I can only depend on projects that I had done. After i had known that i failed again,i told myself that I must work harder, even if i fail again, i still have next year to pull up my socks, i told myself.I try really hard.Luckily,my overall did not fail.

The feeling of failing is really bad.I don't wish this kind of feeling happens to me again. The next semester,i will really work harder,2 times harder than normal.Like school motto say,"To strive and not to yield"I must really strive and not to yield, and i believing myself i can do it!

3. What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what way are the project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful thank traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support your answer.

-I got to be honest and to admit that i don't like to do projects though its fun having to spend time with your friends while doing a healthy thing. But in every subjects? I have to consider that because its hard to finish all the project on the same time and dead-line as we have to cough out our personal time and to do projects but it's alright for me. As for the ways, i've been thinking for quite along time before i could get an answer and that is all projects are the same, it's all in how you want to treat the project to be, because if you think its easy and finished it all up, you will be able to correct the things that are wrong in your projects and leads to gaining more points for that particular subject. Example during school days we had a project and that is to learn more about the "island of the dolphins" book and i loved it, i loved the book and i had a great time doing the project as i learnt how to enjoy my role.

2. Describe one goal you have set for youself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed towards that goal in the second semester?

- I have set a goal and that is to be able to do the right things at the right time. And not to use the computor too much to play games, go out exerise, do better in my studies, to honor my parents and to respect other people's choice. For example not to be rude towards my parents and to respect them more then i respect them today. Sometimes when i see my parents nag at me, i will think about why are they nagging at me. I would be able to listen to them more each day. I will have to be patient towards them and tell him the reasons for doing the things i want to do. Althought i haven met that goal yet but i will carry on trying and trying. I have to stop being so hot-headed and impatient with my parents for not understanding what i'm doing. I will do my best to honor them.

1. What talents (new or hidden) have you learned / discovered about yourself this semester ?

- I have discovered that being in class 1D have made me learnt that i got a part to play in the class. Example to sweep the floor, clean the whiteboard or to arrange the tables in class. I also discovered that i am a person who like clean and tidy places, so its easier to study or to do my homeworks. It may not be a talent but thats what i discovered. But after going to my church camp, i realised that i have a hidden-self more percentage then a open-self and i got to let my feelings show, and to further that after going to the church camp i found out that i am beginning to learned that i have to be open inorder to speak in the public like what a leader should do. Not being able to be brave enough to speak to your team members is a very bad example as there is no communication between the group. So i shall be like my leader being able to speak infront of peoples like what a leader whould do.

5) Based on your answers to the questions above, how do you wish to grow/change as a student/person for second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?
Form my experience in my secondary one, I knew that how much you paid in study, how much you will get in your results. I will continue work hard, even though I knew it is a bramble road to walk. Until now, English is the biggest problem for me so I will pay more attention in my English language study. In the new study setting, I will try my best to accommodate it. Asking questions is my good way to study so I will continue it. If any challenging comes towards me, I will win over it. As a teenager, I will have the interest in playing but I will continence myself. I will finish my homework in high efficiency and high production. I knew literature in next year will be very difficult for me but I will pay more efforts in it. I hope I can get better results in next year.

4) Think back to a time over the past semester when you faced a challenge or made a big mistake. ( A bad grade on something, letting your benchmarks pile up until the last minute ,etc) What sorts of lessons did you learn about yourself from that challenge and/ or mistake? How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? IN what ways does this experience help you to plan for the next semester?
In the past semester, the biggest challenge for me was English. As a foreigner, I just had known a little English when I came to Singapore. I even could not read a simple story at first, that would show how poor was my English. That made me anxious seat. At that time, I really did not know what to do. I felt helpless but with the teacher’s help. I began study English as far as possible. I would catch a classmate and speak English to them. At first, I even did not understand what they were talking about. It was very hard for me to communicate with them. I felt very confusing at that time but my friends encouraged me a lot and they helped me to catch my English. After that I could talk to my friends very fluent. Then my mistakes in oral were getting less and less.
From that experience, I knew that if I had any challenge, I must work hard and get other’s help. For the next semester, I will continue improve my English in these ways.

3).What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support your answer.
In this semester, I had done a lot of projects. The first word comes to my brain is “team work”. This is very important to do any project. I love to do projects because I felt it was very interesting and exciting. Just in one project, there will be lots of things for you to do.
I think the project did online and had clear job for every members was more meaningful because every members must do something, no one could escape and it would help everyone to finish the project faster and better.
The English project we did in June impressed me a lot. It was a new way to do project. In the group, there would be five different members to do five different jobs. The purpose was to understand “Island of the blue dolphins”. My job was discussion director. I would ask any question I had for my group members to answer. From my questions, they would find more deep into to the story and understand it very intensive. Plus the individual work together, our project was finished, we can get other important information from other members’ work, so that individual person can get five persons’ knowledge. We were not just study for ourselves, we also helped other members. It really improve me a lot.

(2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed toward that goal in the second semester?
The goal that I set for myself in September was to get good results in CA2.I was very glad that all my results were A1s and A2s. Someone even did not believe that I got A2 in English, only myself knows how much effort I paid.
I did the exercise every day. When I had problems, I would go and ask my English teacher—Mrs Quah. She was really a good teacher, she would answer any question that I asked and did not be tired of me, so that I could improve my English as far as possible.
When my friends were eating or playing, I was reading English story book. It was because I never played , I could have these kind of good result in CA2. At night I always studied until 11 o’clock, so I could read more and more.
Sometimes I really felt tied and I wanted to play with my friends but my consciousness told me that if I got a good result, my family and I would be very happy and it was very worthy. When my friends asked me to go out with them, I often said “I have a lot of books to read and many assignments to do.” When I refused my friends, they always understood me. That made me very reassurance.
Although it was very hard to meet that goal, I knew I had already got what I paid. I will continue study like this because I succeeded.

I have never done any project before my secondary school life in Singapore, but when I started to do it, I realized that I have the talent of doing team work.

I was not the leader in my group every times but I am the central member in my group. I can distribute the right works to the right members so that everybody can do their suitable works. They were very glad to do that and they could do it well.
In the other hand I always have some very newfangled ideas for my group. When I said my idea to my members, they were very surprised about that. After a moment, they said it was a good idea.
Whenever my group members had problems, they would ask me because I can always solve their problems.

5) Based on your answers to the questions above, how do you wish to grow/change as a student/person second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?

Before answering the questions, I have thought of my future. Now after answering the questions, my views are better of where to go and what to do. I wish to grow to a better student who has time to revise, pay attention at all times and doing my homework whenever I can. I would also try to ask my friends or teachers of what I don’t know. I would like summarise what the teacher teaches me every day. Like this, I will understand more from what the teacher says. From today onwards, I will do my homework and revise my work first before doing anything. I will look at my mistakes and improve them. I will like to face challenges like teacher give out maths questions and time us who will do the questions fastest. From a lazy student, I wish to grow to a hardworking student to achieve better subjects in Sec 3.

How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? In what ways does this experience help you to plan for next semester?

My science examination is the last examination of SA2. The night before the examination, I was busy packing my bag for my trip to Genting. I revised my textbooks, workbooks and notes at night and I almost studied to mid-night. On the day of examination, I was doing the science questions. Then I found out that my mind was blank. Everything I studied yesterday was gone. I had to base on my daily homework and revision to do the question. And i have been constantly thinking of what to play when get there.

The biggest mistake is I don’t have time to do my revision. I had been getting home late because I got my busy CCA and doing homework late every day. At night, I did my homework with my half-eyelid is closed. After I done my homework, I doze off to sleep before I managed to revise my work and what teacher taught me.

3) What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support you answer.

I think that doing projects in every subject is difficult. It can be interesting and challenging too. It can also help us improve our friendship. This is how teamwork is formed. In order to do project in every subject, we need to understand the subject. Project-type assessment can present what we know in a group rather than a person showing what he/she knows to a class. In a group, we can discuss what, when and who are going to present the project together.

The first example that comes to my mind is in the June holidays, we got the guppy project. The guppy project involves Science, Maths and the IT lessons that we need for the graphs. We need to form ourselves into groups of five. We need to think who will go to measure the mass, who will present the project, how to present to project. We give different ideas to make our project more interesting. Like: What colour suit the background of the presentation better, how to make it more beautiful.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed toward that goal in the second semester?

I remembered that my goal in September is to achieve all subjects in SA2 a “B” grade. At that time I didn’t think much, a “B” grade is enough for me. I have been doing my homework and paying attention every day. The problem is when I have questions to ask, I don’t have time to find that teacher and ask she. I have CCA and I go reach home very late. This makes me don’t have much time revising my work. That time, I only think that doing homework and paying attention is enough for the examinations. The day before SA2 I was revising the textbooks, workbooks and the notes, teacher gave to us. The day on examination, I was like yawning the whole exam, trying not to fall asleep.

After receiving the result slip, I knew where went wrong. Instead of getting “B” grade, I took a “C” grade. I will try to do revise my work after I done my homework and do homework first before playing the computer or sitting down on the sofa and watch television.

1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about this semester?

Before going to secondary school, I am just a normal girl who knows how to cook instant noodles. When I heard that there is a subject called F&N, I got shocked. After going to the class for several lessons I learnt how to cook simple dishes. Although the subject is seemed to be easy, it is hard to cook a meal for a person to eat. F&N also let me learnt that what is protein, nutrients and more. The F&N course work is hard because we need to plot what and how to cook, what ingredients are needed, how many cutleries I need to take and more. F&N is also about cleanliness. Before we can get into the kitchen to cook, our fringe must be inside the hat, no long fingernails and personal hygiene is very important. Now I am more interested to cooking instead of the whole subject of F&N.

Their design is nice and very creative.I can't believe that i actually finish up the design and everything at the last day of the program. The teachers who teach us is good at explaining how to use the tools etc.I heard that our works will put up at our school.I feel so enthusiastic next year to see our nice and creative ceramics.I believe it will be great if school willing to arrange this kind of familar program,my opinion is students will support this kind of program and attend.

5) Based on your answers to the questions above, how do you wish to grow/change as a student/person second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?

Based on my answers to the questions above, I will try express and improved my character than before. I must look back for what I had done, like mistakes, and change it for the better. Like my two subjects, Science and Mother Tongue, I will look into more new and better strategy than what I am having now.

For my attitude, I will try to turn over a new leaf by paying more attention to my teacher and ask him or her questions if I’m not clear. I must try to make friends as it is easy to ask them questions if the teacher is absent or not around at that moment.

The most important step I have to take is to study a portion of a topic everyday after I have done my homework. Another most important step is if I got time, I will go ahead and do homework and study with my friends.

4) Think back to a time over the past semester when you faced a challenging or a big mistake. (a bad grade on something, letting your benchmarks pile up until the last minute, etc.) What sorts of lesson did you learn about yourself from that challenge and/or mistake? How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? In what ways does this experience help you to plan for next semester?

The biggest mistake I faced is dropping my grade in one of my subject, Mother Tongue. It was a very shocking experience because I am used to getting A’s for that subject. Instead, I got C. Even though I pass, I was upset because that was the first time I dropped my grade in my Mother Tongue.

The only reason I thought was that I was over confidents about myself. My Mother Tongue teacher told me that it was my Paper 2 that dropped my grade. He also told me I only did well for my Paper 1, that is composition. Another thing that bothers me is that I have no guts to go to my Mother Tongue class as I was scared that they already know my result. Actually, I was only embarrassed to go to a combine class but confident when there is no combine class.

There are two lessons I have learned in this mistake. One, never be over confident about yourself. And two, even if the subject is common sense, like you use it everyday even at home, you still have to make sure you get the language right. I will try to speak proper malay to my friends and family for the next semester.

3) What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support you answer.

My thoughts about having to do projects in every subject is to know every classmate’s opinion on a certain subject. Some projects are difficult because if the project is on the subject Mathematics, the group members might find it hard to solve the topic. Another reason, for all subjects, that it is very difficult for all the group members to agree on an answer because each of them have their own and they think theirs are the correct ones.

In my opinion, majority will think that group project is more fun than individual project. The answer is because each of the group members can have a break after they do his or her part. The interesting thing about doing projects is that you can learned more new things than in the classroom, like in the library, through the internet and even real-life. The subject that is the most challenging to do a project is Mathematics. We need more thinking to do the project, but it is actually positive if we do in a group because, the group members will not argue with their answers if the topic was very challenging.

The most meaningful thing in projects is always on the first few days of school because it will be very easy to make new friends.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed toward that goal in the second semester?

One goal that I set for myself in September is thinking of a new strategy for my studies. Sometimes, I research for the answer to the question instead of referring to my textbooks. In my opinion, if we want to remember a topic, we should not torture ourselves by trying to memorize them. We should take down notes when the teacher is teaching us about the topic.

I have to be honest with myself that I have not met that goal. My grades on some of the subjects had dropped, especially Science. I think it is because some of the topics and formula I did not understand that well. It was actually expected. What I did not expected was my Mother Tongue because I am used to getting A’s in that subject. Maybe the reason is I might be over confident at that time.

I will try to proceed my goal by jotting down every important notes and even trying to understand them. If I do not understand, I will ask my teacher about the topic.

1) What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about yourself this semester?

This semester, I have learned that all the subjects I am taking in secondary school is almost similar as I had learned in my primary school. That is, including History and Geography because some of the topics are common sense. Other subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue are also learned in primary school.

Lets take English for the first example. We learned Grammar and Vocabulary in primary school, and we also learned them in secondary school. They are important because we will not be able to create a composition without them. Some of this things also applies to our Mother Tongue but slightly different. As for Mathematics and Science, in my opinion, the most important thing in the two subjects are memorizing all the formulas. For example, if we want to find the area of a triangle, the formula will be length times base times height.

Now that I know that most of the subjects are similar to in primary school, that does not mean that I do not need to study. It means that I really need to remember all the studies that I had learned in my primary school to do all the work in my secondary school.

2) Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed toward that goal in the second semester?

I have set myself to score a “B” grade for science in the next examination as I have only score a “C” grade during CA2. Since primary school, I have always been scoring a “C” grade or a “D” grade and I told myself that I couldn’t remain in the same standard every year. Thus, I decided to set a higher target for myself.
In the past, I use to do a last minute revision but in order to do better for the next examination, I told myself that I have to start preparing early for my exam and pay attention during science lesson. I revise my work whenever I was free and clarify my doubts with the teacher.

When the results came out, I was disappointed because I put in so many efforts in my science but I still failed. When I take a look at my science, I knew what is my problem; I did not do well in the structure question. Although I had failed my science but I will continue to work towards my goals because I knew that my efforts will not be wasted.

In what ways does this experience help you to plan for next semester?

The biggest challange is when i was doing exam for the maths and science papers. It was so difficult that closing the papers and giving up.But i still try to solved the problems but half heartedly.

When the result is out,i did not feel anything at all for my maths and science. But all that change after someone advised me about my future and how important the subjects was for my future used.I tried harder on another exam and the result came out better than before.

We must not skipped any supplementry and must always try out and do daily practice on the maths questions. I learned that in science we must read about the facts more to improved in the subject. We must work hard and to give up because we must passed every exam or test that we take.I planned to work really hard next year because it is very important year.

My thoughts is that having team-mates to do the work with us.The project-type assessments that are more difficult are those that need to do alot of research than the normal projects. Some projects are the one that was different form our primary school ones so we had a hard time working on it.Posting it on blog is also difficult because we have to called one another and communicate through phone to do the project because some of us have no computers at home and cannot go out of the house to meet to do the project together.101

There are some projects that are interesting. For me the most interesting projects are that we need to make interesting things.

Example:
~We need to build a structure using recycled materials during art lesson in a group.

In english lesson, me and my group need to do a project based on these questions:
~1)A book project
~2)Game design
~3) Movie Trailers
~4) Creative Digital Story-telling
My group choosed the first question. It was not easy to do the project at first because the lack of time and some of us does not have computers. But we solved it by calling one of our group members who have computer to post the project for us and we are greatful to her.

I have set the goal that i will work hard for the year-end examinations. After the mid-year examinations,i'm quite dissapointed with my results because it was not up to my expectations.
I really slack at that point of time.Going home late makes it difficult to revised what we have learned that particular day.

I thought that i could make myself work hard but the result was the opposite. I work hard first but when the examinations came near i became lazy again as there's too much to study on.At that point of time, i just feel like giving up.But luckily i have got my friends support to work hard and not to lazy around because this exam was about my future, whether to stay in express or fall to normal academic.

When the exam came, it was difficult than i thought.I just felt that at that point of time i must do my best in my papers. The most difficult subjects was maths and science. The exam ends but it did not relieved me.The results were out and i thought i have done well than before and i did. I am happy and dissapointed at the same time.I thought i did well but i when in to the last class of express. I have set a goal to work hard , never play around and never to skip supplementry classes since then.

1.What talents(new or hidden) have you learned/discovered
about yourself this semester?

I have learned about how to do ceramics art in the ascape programme .It is so fun and interesting to do the art work.I like it because i really like the subject art and this lesson had taught me more knowledge about art.I learnt that art is not only about drawing on the piece of paper but on ceramics too.

It was really a great fun making the shape on the ceramics. In the art room i saw a lot of other students work.It was nice and i thought that they was very creative to do it in a certain way that could attract people. I also think the teacher in charge is good at explaining things that we can understand it very easily.

I still remember that on the last day of the ascape programme, i still managed to complete it although the time limit was short because i came in late due to some problems.I really like to see our hardwork would be published in the school next year. I really appreciate if the school would arranged another programme like this.

3.What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are
project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support your answer.

I love doing project because I felt that doing project is not as boring as doing homework. Usually, when the teachers gave us homework, the answer can be found in the textbook but it is not the same for project. Most of the time, when we are doing project, we have to do a lot of research and we get to gain more knowledge.
To me, project-type assessments that are difficult, interesting, challenging are those that you had to come up with graphs, pictures, conclusion, analyzing and storyboard, which you have never ever come across. I remembered that before the June holiday, there was a math project where the math teacher had picked up ten students to be the leaders and the rest of the thirty students will have to get into group of ten. Every group will have to choose one leaders to work with them. After a long decision, I and my group members have decided to choose a person that is good in mathematics and could work with us well.

According to my above answers , I would wish to be more attentive and pay more attention in class in the future .
Not to skipped any of the supplementaries given to me anymore . Supplementaries can also be important as lessons during school time too . I would also like to submit all my homeworks on time too . From a playful student , I would like to change to a hardworking student . I would strive all out for my secondary two , as I know secondary two is very important , and it's very hard to go on to secondary three . So , I would try as hard as I can to go on to the subjects that I want to take in secondary three . But , my studies are still a long way to go for me . I would still want to continue my studies after I graduate from University . Way to go !

In the past semester , I had really made a big big mistake . There's a maths supplementary for us . But , I skipped . Not only me , but half of the class skipped too . Now , when I think back , I think that was a really foolish act . I should set a good example for my classmates to follow as I'm the class president of the class . But , due to my foolishness , I skipped too . We decided to skipped the maths supplementary , but , we did not go back home . We still hanged out in school together and play a fool .

When our maths supplementary teacher caught us in a act , no one decided to go and own up for our foolishness . We went home without apologized to the teacher . I really regretted what I have done . If I skipped one lesson of maths supplementary , I have missed a lot of teaching stuffs that to be educate to us . If not , I would have done better in my maths .

In the next semester , I will not ever done this again . I would go for all my supplementary lesson and really pay attention to it . I want to score well for my exams next year .

I never thought of it before. Now that you asked me,I wanted to be a more careful student on my work and try to avoid anymore big mistakes.I want to improve my Maths so that I can enter Polytechnic and not stop half way in my studies.I will try to be more attentive in class and stop my drawing-addiction when lessons are in progress. From a childish and playful student,I wish to change into a mature and serious person.I will have to be prepared for whatever challenges that await me in the next year and work harder.I do not wish to upset my parents and shatter their expectations for me so I should do better in my exams.Even though everything would be a lot harder as the years go by,it would not weaken my determination to get my problems solved.Just like what Madeleine had mentioned,we might not achieve what we worked hard for but this is just a beginning,I hope.

F&N,the most challenging subject that I made the most mistakes on.The first mistake was a minor one when I had forgotten to tuck in a few strands of hair into the cap.The teacher warned me that cleanliness is important in the kitchen and I worked on that.Probably because I was too carried away with cooking that I did not realize.I forced myself to remember in F&N class time and time again to check on my hair. After a few weeks,I had gotten over this problem. The next big thing occured during my F&N practical exam.I really can't believe that I had made such a big mistake in an exam!I was slicing my carrot and the teacher did a few rounds in the kitchen, observing our cooking skills. When she came to me,she reminded me to peel off the skin of the carrot before the carrot can be eaten. Then I found out I didn't peel the skin off!Because of that mistake,I decided not to repeat it again by practicing cooking at home.It was such an embarrasing mistake that I would laugh at the thought of it.The last mistake was that,I did not have enough time to clean up the my space and I needed my partner's help.Maybe I spent too much time on the soup that I totally forgot about cleaning up!

3) What are your thoughts about having to do projects in every subject? In what ways are project-type assessments more difficult, interesting, challenging, or meaningful than traditional ways of showing what you know? Cite an example or two to support your answer.

My first thought is always 'huh~' when it is project time. Not because I hate doing projects but it is tougher to get working on project-type assessments. If I am in an irresponsible group where the group members do not want to do work, all the work comes to me and the points will be shared amongst the group.Unfair, isn't it?If I get into a group with my friends to do a project, everything would be much more easier. That is the difficult point.Doing project work is more meaningful and interesting is that, you don't need to follow accordingly to a workbook. It is a homework which we can freely express and join different opinions. If we don't know what to write, mindmaps are welcomed on projects and it would not be so hard. The challenging part is presenting the project, whether you know what you are doing. The other challenging part is that, teamwork must be shown.Projects aren't so bad,so tough after all.

2)Describe one goal that you set for yourself in September. What steps have you taken? Where and how have you met that goal? Where and how have you fallen short? And how will you proceed toward that goal in the second semester?

A goal?Well,if I let you make a wild guess, you will get the right answer for sure.I am really a loser when it comes to Maths and every year,I keep targeting just a 'C' grade for it.This year,it is the same but I get 'F' instead of my ideal grade.During September,I set the same old goal but this time,I targeted for a higher grade--'B'.I prepared daily study routines for myself and these are the five steps I have taken.

1)Lock myself up in the room and study for two hours,non-stopping.
2)No fooling around with the dog plushies in my room, concentrate.
3)Only allowed for toilet breaks and no taking a peek at the television show in the living room.
4)Revise some notes in the textbook and worksheets that are Maths-related.
5)No computer games.

I have failed all of the five steps I wanted myself to take. Therefore,I decided to take to easier way out.Sit in front of my Dad and revise. That did work out for an hour or so,before I gave up.Instead,I chose to clarify problems I encountered with my primary school teacher. She arranged some tuitions classes for me but it was a bit uncomfortable. Why?I was the only Secondary One student amongst all the primary five kids.Other than that, everything was fine.My teacher explained to me that I did not understand the concepts and the solutions to Maths, that is why I did so badly for my exams.Although I did not really good for this year's year end Maths paper,I told myself to work towards that goal again next year by studying harder.

1)What talents (new or hidden) have you learned/discovered about yourself this semester?

I love writing compositions and I discovered a talent for writing.Using creative phrases whipped up by my own imaginations is one of the best thing I can do.Amazingly,I don't need to flip through books or anything to get creative sentences.I just...write out whatever is in my mind.In a few minutes,I can have a few creative sentences popping up in my brain.

For example:The sun gleamed brilliantly like a diamond, its rays of light piercing through my window.

This is my type of creative phrase,I jumble up different words to form a sentence. This talent helped me improved my way of writing. It can sometimes be bad too as I can think up really weird phrases which do not mean anything. They just seem and sound funny.Once I realized a strange phrase in my paragraph,I will erase everything(well, almost everything).Anyway,my talent benefits most of the time.

When project come in every single subject , my thoughts would have be " aww man , project again " . But , on the other hand , projects would have helped us in a lot of ways . Like , teamworks , thinking skiils , responsibility( Eg : Hand up the project when date dues ) .

To me , project-type assessments that are difficult, challenging and interesting are those with pictures that you will need to conclude and analyzing their plotting and their story .

Same as madeleine , when talking about projects , my first thinking will come about the June holiday project . This project consist of topics that i had not came before in my primary school .

1) A book project
2) Game design
3) Movie Trailers
4) Creative Digital Story-telling

(5) Based on your answers to the questions above, how do you wish to grow/ change as a student/ person second semester? What steps do you have to take to achieve that growth?

I definitely want to work even harder as a student, get good results so that everyone around me will be happy for me.

It was easy getting good grades when I first started in Secondary 1, as CA1 is easy. If you can recall what you learn in primary school. But along the way, homework, projects, school-related work gets harder and harder, until I wanted to give up and not study anymore.

But I know that is impossible, so I took all the challenges that came my way and did not give up. I just told myself to keep working hard and in the end, all I have done will pay off. Which it did.

It is all about determination, perseverance, how you manage your time, planning and lots of patience. Even though you work hard, the result you see might not be what you hoped to get. I know all this because I went through all of them.

How did this influence the way you did things after that moment? IN what ways does this experience help you to plan for the next semester?

I remembered it was during math lesson. The test on algebra or angles’ result was out. I barely passed the test. I was upset, even though this test did not have anything to do with CA2. I always scored well for math and this test was a total flop to me.

I learned that without daily practice, my math’s result can drop. A lot. I then realized I had been lazing around, not serious in my studies. I wanted to work even harder, but I realized that it was too late, because CA2 was just around the corner. I had no choice, but to let it be like this and hoped that I passed my math.

I used to be like this in the past, not concerned about studies, so my failing marks didn’t influence me. But now that I got better results, it does influence me in a lot of ways, like how I plan for every exam, making sure I practice my math everyday, no matter what.

This experience has helped me plan better for next semester. I will make sure I revise and practice my math everyday, no matter how busy I am.
